A national icon Aamir khan allegedly called his own country INTOLERANT in an interview! Mind you, its not something he said aloud in public by his own will. He was invited and then asked number of questions which he replied to.
Some Indians (living in the country and abroad) are furious and outraged!!!
How dare he labels our country INTOLERANT!!!
We have been the most tolerant country in the world!!!
We have made him Aamir Khan!!!
He is what he is today because of this country!!!
What has he done for the country???
A sudden wave of patriotism sweeps the nation! People start spewing hate for a citizen who punctured their ego inflated patriotism!
Below is the excerpt from what he said followed by the video link to his full interview.
“As an individual, as part of this country as a citizen, we read in the papers what is happening, we see it on the news and certainly, I have been alarmed. I can’t deny. I have been alarmed by a number of incidents. When I chat with Kiran at home, she says ‘Should we move out of India?’ That’s a disastrous and big statement for Kiran to make. She fears for her child. She fears about what the atmosphere around us will be. She feels scared to open the newspapers every day.”
Never a moment in the interview where he said “He wants to leave or intending to leave” India! In a spontaneous reply when asked, he talks about “sense of insecurity”! The biggest mistake he did was speaking out domestic talk on a public platform. Innocence has no place in the country it seems! I watched the interview many times and I genuinely struggle to find his comments premeditated or politically driven. But we humans are good at manipulation.
It was concluded that this is what he really meant — “India is an Intolerant country”!!
Really???!!!!! I wish people sit down and watch his interview again!
On the contrary, he raised number of good points in the interview but as always, negativity amplifies easily! The only way to express love for your country is by pointing out someone as unpatriotic. I guess its the easiest thing to do these days! All you need is a phone with an internet connection.
Some people are threatened that IMAGE of India is spoiled around the globe! Surprisingly, the IMAGE of India is not threatened when foreign tourists are repeatedly gang raped while in India! The IMAGE of India was not tarnished when people around the globe watched the documentary called “India’s Daughter”! The IMAGE of India is not spoiled when people across the globe read and hear about issues like female foeticide, corruption, casteism, untouchability and medical malpractice! But suddenly, the so called IMAGE of the country collapsed when a movie actor voiced out his opinion in an interview!
Before we claim ourselves tolerant Indians, how about we put some effort towards becoming tolerant humans!
What does it say about the country when people call him Muslim and threaten to send him to Pakistan??! People jump onto the internet and give negative reviews to “SNAPDEAL”, an eCommerce site which he is the ambassador of. Some even installed the app just to give bad reviews to the site!!! Monetary award was announced for slapping him!
What does this crap say about the country?
The behavior disgusts me to the core! It clearly shows that some people of the country are anything but TOLERANT! I am disappointed to say that he is absolutely correct in the statement that he issued later where he said people actually proved him right!
It seems to me that underlying reason people are always angry at him is this — He succeeds every time in pointing out the weak points and flaws that the country has. Whether be it a show like Satyamev Jayate or a movie like PK, he points out what is wrong in the country and what issues need to be tackled to make the country a better place. Yes I know that every country has issues and no country is perfect but accepting the issues is the first step to find a solution, not denying it. But it is too much for some patriotic Indians to hear anything bad about their country! Admitting the problems will be no good for their ego. It is quite astonishing to see that so called TOLERANT people CANNOT even TOLERATE a citizen expressing his opinion/concern (that too when invited and asked in an interview!) and then take pride in being TOLERANT!
There are zillions of issues in the country people should divert their attention to rather than getting fixated on this. I am afraid “the reaction to his comments” will do more harm to the country than his comments. It will only add fuel to the fire. If you really love your country, do not become a catalyst in ruining it.
Calling someone “deshdrohi (unpatriotic)” who obviously has done more for the country than yourself is not a testimony of true patriotism.
