Breathing=Autopilot.
Conscious breathing and its capacity to change our physiology in the moment fascinates me! Here is something that I do everyday and you might get the value out of it. You don’t need any fancy app for this. You can use either a reminder app or set up an alarm.
Setup a reminder to “Take 5 Conscious Breaths” every 2 hours during the day. Try this for a week and see what happens. All you need is 43.56 secs. Yes, Its 43.56 seconds for me to take 5 conscious breaths.
Can you say you don’t have time??
All you have to do is take 5 breaths every 2 hours with your complete attention while feeling each inhale and exhale.
When you complete your first day, you will come to realise one of the most important realizations of humankind and that is — Every time the reminder popped up, you were doing one thing — “Thinking”! And most of the time this thinking is not on demand but also on autopilot!
Not that thinking all the time is inherently bad. We all have to think, that’s what humans do. But thinking all the time without even being aware that you’re thinking is draining. Unchecked, unobserved and unnecessary thinking that happens on autopilot is what sucks the life energy out of us. When you pause at each of this reminders during the day, it will put brakes on your constant stream of thinking and help you relax.
So try this 43.56 seconds experiment.
