Its that time of the year again. Are you feeling the pressure or need to set the new year resolution?
I have some good news.
You don’t have to have one.
Lasting change comes on its own accord, never by effort or force.
As you get older, you see the futility of the tricks you play with yourself.
So you ask, do I not do anything, not set any goals, be a dormant dead rock?
Well, try that too and soon you will realise that you cannot even be a lazy couch potato for long!
You can’t even sustain your laziness for long!
If you really want the proof that new year resolution doesn’t work, you need not go anywhere. Look back at your life and see how many times you have failed at these futile attempts!
Analyse the “why”.
Setting resolution and then failing it creates enormous amount of guilt and conflict within yourself. The harm caused by that guilt and conflict will outweigh any illusory benefits that you may have envisaged by setting the resolution in the first place.
Man is the creature of last resort. He doesn’t change until he has to, and yet, he is changing constantly without his own volition.
Is this a cop out from doing the hard work?
NO.
Its the opportunity to look at your life and figure out why your attempts to change and improve yourself with these temporary hacks have consistently failed.
Give up the need to constantly change or improve yourself. Look deep into the nature of yourself. From that place, a lasting change may emerge……., naturally.
