From time to time, you hear the news about sudden and unexpected death. The death of a celebrity, distant relative, colleague or a friend. You suddenly feel the surge of emotions. You feel sad. You may feel angry. You feel sorry. You feel compassionate towards the family of the departed. You try to put logic why it happened. You question how life can be so unfair! You feel little fearful thinking about your own death and your loved ones. You suddenly realise that life is so fragile and precious. You decide to make the most of your life. You decide not to stress about petty things. You ruminate for a day or two.
Then……..then you go back to your life and start living the way you always have.
The way in which you think you will live forever. The way in which you think death is far from you.
You go back to sleep, ignoring the only truth you have always known.
Rich dies. Poor dies.
Strong dies. Weak dies.
Young dies. Old dies.
Healthy dies. Unhealthy dies.
Vegan dies. Meat eater dies.
Religious dies. Atheist dies.
You will die. I will die.
Everybody dies.
You say, “So what?” “I know that already”.
To which, I say “Nothing”. “Good that you know”.
You say “What do I do with it”? I say “You do nothing”.
What can you do with the truth? Isn’t knowing enough for you?
If you really knew, the question “What do I do with it?” will not even arise. What needs to be done, will happen naturally.
You cannot do anything with the truth but to know it in your bones. It cannot be manipulated with the intellect.
Truth is divorced from logic.
Life is beautiful but brutal. Life is uncertain but death is indisputable.
That only I know.
That only you may know.
