Places have power. Some places jolt you. I just returned home after spending few days in Ladakh and it is by far one of the most memorable trips of my life. The place numbs your mind and fills your senses with heightened awareness. The place is so full of contrast that it surprises you every step of the journey. It shows beyond doubt that barren can also be beautiful. In just few days, we got the opportunity to immerse ourselves in the beauty of green luscious fields, barren mountains, flooded rivers, sand dunes, blue lakes and snow-capped peaks.
The place like Ladakh makes you realise how you take things for granted. it gives you an opportinity to look outside the limited confined space of so-called your “own life”. Whether you are an adventurer who likes challenges and wants to triumph the rugged mountains or a seeker who wants to go deep within yourself, Ladakh is the place to be. The tales of people will inspire you. When an Indian army solder explains how not only he survives in -35 degrees at 18000 ft. but also fights with enemies in those brutal conditions, your head bows down with respect. When a local talks about his daily challenges and how he takes care of his family in mere 8000 rs. a month, your heart melts and eyes get teary.
The roads are so risky and rough; they will challenge your driving abilities. Ladakh teaches you that there are no peaks without valleys and you can be tough yet beautiful. It’s not your ordinary holiday where you can lie down by the pool and sip cocktails. It challenges you and keeps you on your toes. When you step out of your day-to-day life and go to a place like Ladakh, your central nervous system reboots.
You may experience severe headaches; You may feel that you are running out of your breath; you may puke couple of times and yet, you will be gobsmacked by the beauty of this place. People of Ladakh will make you humble. The terrain will make you tough. Beauty so majestic that it floods your heart with pure ecstasy.
Ladakh leaves a permanent tatoo on your soul.
